Prevention of Dry Frizzy Winter Hair

Winter isn’t all about endless supply of warm chocolate drinks or tucking under warm quilt for longer naps or netflix & chill, With the lowest drop in cold temperature, your hair will stop absorbing moisture  from environment which could lead to lack luster, frizzy, fragile , brittle which may prone to breakage or leads to  frizzy bird nest Hair. Here’s our Dr.Amina Al Amiri’s tips to survive the winter hair.

1. Avoid heat :
  • Avoid hot showers or avoid heat styling or blow drying as this will furthermore dry the hair cuticle making it perfect combination for frizzy untamed wild hair.
  • Take some break with frequent hair washing

Frequent washing can strips out hair sebum which is natural oil which helps hair strands to retain its shine & glow.

2. Cold water!

We know it’s difficult especially in freezing winter however studies shows Rinsing hair with cold water it seals the cuticles reducing moisture loss. So let’s save the last minute of your hair shower for this cold torture.

3. Holy Grail shower filter !

Use shower filter containing vitamins which can soften the hard water filtering chemicals which will dry out hair.

4. Use right hair care products :

During winter prefer nourishing deep conditioning shampoo & conditioner , use scalp serums, & Moisturizing hair serums which contains very light precious oils to maintain healthy shine.

5. Avoid chemical based hair products :

Avoid harmful chemicals like sulphates ,paraben , formaldehyde, DMDM hydantoin, Triclosan, Polyethylene Glycols, Dimethicone as these chemicals not only harmful for hair strands but also can leads to hair fall & other hormonal disruptions.

6. Layer your hair with Mask !!!!

Use store brought hair mask or DIY homemade hair mask With honey ,curd ,aloe Vera gel, coconut oil (for thick hair)or almond oil (for fine hair), this mixture can be applied & left for 30 mins & rinse your hair.

7. Say Yes to Luxury Fabrics !!!

The fabrics you sleep has great effect on hair & skin as you spend almost 30% of your day in sleeping so Use silk scarfs, silk scrunchees, silk pillow cases instead of cotton as soft shiny silky surface of the silk reduces friction & breakage, silk pillowcase absorbs less moisture thus leaving our thirsty dry hair with hydration.

If you’re on cost effective budget satin provides perfect alternative for silk.

8. Eat right :

Take Enough protein, Use supplements containing biotin , vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin E, fish oil  and food rich in iron,zinc, omega 3  & Anti oxidants into your diet.

9. Humidifier:

Use humidifier which can retain moisture in your hair.

10. Use Professional Help:
  • Check your blood test for any deficiency like riboflavin, biotin, zinc, folate ,vitamin B12 , vitamin D or any thyroid dysfunction can lead to severe hair fall.
