Dermatitis is a general term for skin inflammation. The causes of dermatitis vary between types. However, it’s not contagious. There are several different types of dermatitis. Some can last long, while others may cycle between flare-ups and periods of no symptoms.
In general, the symptoms of dermatitis may include:
- Rashes
- Blisters
- Dry (cracked skin)
- Itchy skin
- Painful skin, with stinging or burning
- Swelling
Atopic dermatitis (‘eczema’) or seborrheic dermatitis are two other skin diseases that are commonly affect the face. Eczema is particularly common in babies and children, but may still affects some adults.
Seborrheic dermatitis (seborrheic eczema) affects more men than women and is often particularly occurs around the eyebrows and nose creases.
Apart from topical therapy, tablets or injections (severe cases) may be prescribed, regular application of proper type of emollients is crucial. This is something that should be discussed with your Dermatologist.
Beside steroid creams, we can also prescribe steroid-free, anti-inflammatory creams, and topical immune-modulator. You might be recommended to do some blood test for food allergies. If considered a contact allergy, patch test can be done. Some factors to be discussed are Environmental, Lifestyle and choice of clothing.
